Former PGSU Leader Sanjib Talukdar In Police Net In Connection To Guwahati Grenade Blast

GUWAHATI: Now a former president of the Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) Sanjib Talukdar, Gauhati University, is in police net in connection with the recent grenade attack in Guwahati. With this, the total arrest in the blast case has gone up to seven.

Former PGSU leader Sanjib Talukdar (Suman), hailing from Korora in Baihata Chariali, is doing M Phil in the university. He is also working as a faculty in a coaching centre in Guwahati.

According to the police, ULFA ‘commander-in-chief’ Paresh Baruah telephoned Sanjib as many as four times in April this year. The topic of conversation between the two, according to the police, was all about the coaching of a youth. “A youth is going to meet you for coaching. I’ve given the boy your mobile number. If you can, contact the boy yourself and help him. I’m giving you his mobile number,” the police quoted Paresh Baruah as telling Sanjib Talukdar during the conversation.

After a few days, according to the police, Sanjib met the boy at Ganeshguri in Guwahati. From there, the youth took Sanjib on his bike and dropped him at Jalukbari via Zoo Road.

Sanjib was oblivious of the fact that the youth he had met on that day was none other than Bijay Asom.

The police picked up Sanjib on Sunday evening and arrested him on Tuesday, after a thorough interrogation. He was produced before the CJM Court on Tuesday. The court sent him to six-day police remand.
